Accomplishments
• Volunteered over 100 off-duty hours to install and repair audio and visual equipment on the USS WISCONSIN and the city of Norfolk’s Nauticus Maritime Museum. Efforts helped the museum open new exhibits.
• Collaborated with Command, Control, Communications, Computer, Cyber, and Intelligence Service Center to develop and Validate a power amplifier alignment procedure for the URQ-III High Frequency Transmitter Group that enabled technicians the ability to repair the component versus full replacement valued at $25,540 per amplifier. Following the validation of the procedure, it was implemented at Remote Control Facility Pungo in excess of thirty times, saving the Coast Guard over $766,000.
• During the Communication System Network Right- Size Project, his technical acumen was instrumental in the reconfiguration of the system that enables management of the global marine safety broadcasts from a single hub. His efforts helped dramatically improve data transfer speeds, reduce sustainment costs, and saved over $108,000 in annual maintenance.
• Selected for Sailor of the Quarter from Oct 2021 – Dec 2021 During one aids to navigation patrol, the Cutter MAPLE suffered a casualty to the primary navigation system on the bridge. While serving as the independent duty Electronics Technician, I rapidly diagnosed the issue and took immediate steps to affect the repairs. Utilizing superb technical acumen, networked with Command, Control, Communications, Computer, Cyber, and Intelligence Service Center while moored at US Coast Guard Base Portsmouth to reimage the system and install software, allowing for safe transit back to homeport. Expended over thirty hours working with C5ISC and SFLC to correct stock system discrepancies and procure a new computer in order to restore the system to full operational capability.
• Additionally corrected discrepancies with the ship’s satellite communications system, internet connectivity, and the ship’s aid to navigation application, USAIMS.
• Volunteered for small boat operations to train boat crew members in the use of a side scan sonar in order to bolster MAPLE’s ability to retrieve sunken aids in high traffic areas such as the Cape Fear River and Chesapeake Bay.
• Earned the certification of master helmsman providing the ship safe navigation in restricted waters where improper navigation could result in hazardous grounding of the ship.
• Earned the certification of Quarter Master of the Watch creating and conducting navigation briefs and processing checklist for the safe operation of the ship also utilization of the ship’s aid to navigation program USAIMS for proper positioning of aids to navigation for safe operation of merchant and civilian vessels in possibly dangerous waters.
• Earned the qualification of inport officer of the deck ensuring the safety and security of the ship and acting as command of the Coast Guard Cutter MAPLE while moored.
